Academic Support

The following letter was sent home to parents of students needing to remediate a class on 2/7/19:

Dear Parent/Guardian:

The purpose of this letter is to inform you that your child has failed to meet Competency requirements (FC report card Final Grade) in at least one class in the first semester of the 2018/2019 school year. In order to earn course credit, Alvirne High School students must demonstrate proficiency in all identified Competency areas.  Unless this issue is resolved, your child will not earn credit for this course.

Winter Remediation classes will run on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 2:20-3:15 on the following schedule:

  • Session One:  Monday, February 11 through Thursday, March 14
  • Session Two:  Monday, March 18 through Thursday, April 11

See the attached schedule for specific course information (Remediation Schedule Winter 2018-2019).  Your child has also received a letter in school detailing the requirements of this program.

The expectations for participation in Winter Remediation are as follows:

  • Attend all remediation sessions.  Students who exceed two absences will be dropped from the program.
  • Complete all assessments at an acceptable level of proficiency by the established due dates. Students may stop attending remediation as soon as they have completed their coursework.
  • Seek assistance from the remediation instructor as needed and keep designated appointments with the instructor.
  • Uphold standards of academic honesty.  Plagiarism or other forms of cheating will result in immediate dismissal from the program as well as administrative discipline.

Please urge your child to take advantage of this opportunity. This is a required course, so failure to remediate may jeopardize your child’s ability to graduate on schedule.  Summer school at a cost of $100 will be your child’s only option if he or she does not remediate at this time. Don’t hesitate to contact me or your child’s school counselor if you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Susan Bureau
