Calf Club

Calf Club is open to students of Alvirne High School and CTE programs. You do not have to be enrolled in an agricultural course to participate.
Calf Club meets Tuesday and Thursday after school in the dairy barn until 3:15 or 3:30, which allows students to use the Late Bus if needed. Students choose whether to attend both days each week or just one day each week.
We will tame and train the calves born on the Farm. You may be working with calves from as young as two days old up to 6-months old and beyond. Along the way, we’ll be tracking growth, halter training, leading, grooming, feeding and watering. Occasionally, we’ll be cleaning up after them too. You’ll learn safety working with large animals, how to tie a quick release knot and how to properly and safely secure fence gates.
With continued handling and respect, together we will transform a frightened, unruly calf into a trusted friend with manners.
Safety is of the very important on the Farm! You will need hard toe work boots, long pants, gloves and appropriate clothing for heat, rain, wind, or snow. Calf Club runs regardless of inclement weather.
Calf Club will not meet when school is canceled or extra-curricular activities are canceled by the school. Please return the permission slip as soon as possible.
The Safety list is for you to keep. Please read it, learn it and do it!
